The average life expectancy of a geothermal system is 24.7 years versus 15.0 years for the average fossil fuel furnace. Geothermal systems have fewer mechanical components, making them more reliable and they last longer because they are protected from harsh outdoor weather. And best of all unlike fossil fuel systems that lose efficiency as they age, geothermal systems hold their efficiency through the life of the unit.
